South African Coal Industry
The South African coal industry comprises well over 50 collieries ranging from 200 000 tpa to over 40 Mtpa, mainly open cast with a few underground operations. Geographically they are in the northeast of South Africa, covering three provinces Limpopo, Mpumalanga and KwaZulu Natal (KZN). They are accompanied by a similar number of coal processing plants ranging in size from 100 to 6 000 t/hr multi-modular plants.
